Let's Talk about Natural Antibiotics!

You have most of these products in your kitchen. Garlic...honey...there's more! So, let's get down to it.

According to the NHS, 1 in 10 people experience side effects that harm their digestive system after taking antibiotics. 1 in 15 people are allergic to antibiotics. Taking probiotics helps rebuild your gut health, but there's no doubt that antibiotics can mess with your system. I think it's a good time to start educating ourselves on what alternatives we have and to start putting these alternatives to work.

There will be more educational blogs on this and I'd love your feedback on what you'd like to know more about. If you're interested in trying any of these, and you'd like to purchase them, I've made it easy for you with links in each section.

Here are some basics natural antibiotics you probably already have in your home:

  • Garlic- It's an effective treatment against many types of bacteria. Taking up to 2 cloves a day is safe. If you're taking blood thinners, please consult your doctor. There are also organic garlic supplements. You can apply garlic oil directly on wounds or blemishes to assist with healing.

  • HONEY! This is one of my favorite things on earth. I've actually found te perfect honey. There's a woman in Thurmont who makes THE MOST delicious honey. I've never met her, but I place orders through a local friend of mine. I buy as much as she has in stock, and it's still never enough. I drink a lot of hot tea in the colder months and iced tea in the warmer, and I use honey to sweeten it. I also use her honey for my honey syrup. She's a small business and not set up to sell on a platform at this time, but as soon as she is, I plan on giving you her info, because I am truly in love with her honey. ANYWAY, honey's the best! especially local and organic honey. Honey can be used directly on woulds to aid in healing as well as draw out any infections. It has antibacterial effects and can successfuly treat wounds containing MRSA. Did you know honey contains hydrogen peroxide? It also has a high sugar content which helps stop the growth of certain bacterias. Please remember to never give honey to children under 1 year old

  • Oregano (essential oil). Carvacrol is an ingredient found in (oregano essential oil). It has important therapeutic properties that can activate healing in the body when it's inhaled. It's believed the oil can help boost your immune system. Oregano oil has been found to help heal gastric ulcers and reduce inflammation. To treat fungal infections on your skin, 1 drop of oregano oil added to 1 teaspoon of coconut oil is the perfect treatment. Diffusing oregano oil can help with sinus. NEVER put raw oregano oil on your skin or ingest it. You can mix oregano oil, vinegar, water and lemon and use in your diffuser to help eradicate bacteria in your home.

  • Here's what grapefruit essential oils can do for you...reduces depression, stimulates your immune system, decreases fluid retention, helps with weight loss, and has cleansing and disinfecting properties. It's high in antioxidants. It's mostly used for fighting throat and respiratory infections. It's also a powerful gallbladder and liver stimulant. There are suppliments and there are sprays.I think I need to do a whole blog on Grapefruit. I will. I don't personally like grapefruit, but the spray is the perfect solution.

So, I'd love to have some feedback on what you think. Have you used these products as antibiotics in the past? Do you have certain recipes you like to use? Would you share with me? Do you have more you could recommend?
