Take your vitamins...please.

I'd like to start by reminding you, I'm not an expert on anything. I simply like sharing some of the things I do and things I've learned about along the way.

Today, I'd like to talk to you about taking your vitamins. As a whole, our family has always had a vitamin regiment. My daughter and I take iron when we're feeling a bit weak. We both have mild anemia. I began introducing vitamin D3 during the winter months because I feel it in my bones when I'm not getting enough sunshine. It's painful at times. We don't have individual vitamin organizers, we forget most days. But when Covid hit, and I'd heard and read about certain vitamin regiments that helped keep your immune system strong, I started implementing a regiment that worked for us, daily.

We prefer gummy vitamins. They taste better. It's easier for me to get the kids to take them. They taste better....I know there are arguments against gummy vitamins, I don't want to hear them right now. I'm doing things little by little here. One step at a time. I'm going to put links throughout this blog to help make things a little easier for you if you decide to take on this regiment.

Below is what we've been taking for the past 2 years. the honeyWe also take the honey syrup that I wrote about in my blog from February 20th. Feel free to check out the recipe here.

Let's start with vitamin D3. Recommended daily dosage is 1000 to 4000 IU. It's a nutrient your body needs to keep your bones healthy. It's an anti-inflammatory, an anti-oxidant, it helps brain activity and muscle function. To read more specific details, click here to see what the Mayo clinic has to say. Keeping your vitamin D3 levels up will help you stave off any illness, and hopefully, reduce the time of your illness if you do get sick.

I have most of my vitamins on subscription order from Amazon. Ordering from Amazon is another issue, I simply haven't found an answer to yet. I'm guilty of putting money into the pockets of a man who I think is dilusional and way out of touch with human reality. I will say I've cut down my Amazon purchases

as much as possible, but the subscription for vitamins saves me money and time. I've been looking elsewhere, so if anyone has suggestions, please feel free to comment. Click on my Buy Green...Stay Healthy button to see all products on one page, for easy shopping.

Next up is vitamin B12. Vitamin B is meant to give you energy. Here's what I found in an article at msn.com about it's necessity in staving off covid-19. "Vitamin B Complex has immense potential in protecting against COVID-19. It mediates in the proper activation of innate and adaptive immune responses, heightens respiratory functions, lowers pro-inflammatory cytokine levels and prevents too much blood clotting. " It also helps create new red and white blood cells. You should take about 1.2 mcg each day.

Vitamin C...oranges. We eat a lot of oranges and citrus around here. I do feel like I crave oranges a little more during the cold weather months. It's been proven that higher levels of vitamin C in your system, reduces your risk of pneumonia. 40 mg a day should do it. Here are some other things vitamin C is good for....your immune system, stress and anxiety, blood pressure and it lowers your risk of heart disease. The gummy version also tastes yummy. Here's your link.

I was introduced to probiotics when my kids and I traveled frequently to Nicaragua. I can't remember who told me about them, but I was grateful. Probiotics are good bacteria, they fight off bad bacteria, mainly in your gut. Your gut health is extremely important to keeping the rest of your body and mind, healthy. Olly makes an amazing probiotic in a tasty gummy form. They have different types, but the one you'll see here is a probiotic + prebiotic. I'm covering all bases. They help build your immune system and protect against hostile bacteria. They improve digestion and with the absorbtion of nutrients. Most of us give these to our kids when they take anti-biotics as a counter measure. We've been taking them daily since covid hit.

Olly has a great kids multi + probiotic here. It includes everything I've talked about PLUS zinc, which is really important these days. I also take zinc. I don't have a link for it, but you can easily find it, in gummy form. I didn't make that easy for you, sorry. Let me know you'd like a link by replying to this blog....or maybe I'm just fishing to see how many of you are reading.....

I'm sorry. It's a Saturday morning. I've been up since before 7, and there's a snow cyclone happening outside my window. I'm secretly hoping baseball practice is cancelled for tonight, so I officially don't have to leave my house today.

Ok, last and pretty important for our family is melatonin. There's a lot of talk around melatonin for the aid in sleeping. A friend suggested it to me years ago, and I used it and loved it. My kids know that it's not a routine thing, only meant for nights when you're having a hard time falling asleep. This article from the National Library of Medicine is very interesting and I haven't seen or heard very much about it on the news. So, please take a second to read. It's not too long. Here's my link to another Olly favorite. It's called Sleep. It's 3mg, which is a great dosage to aid in falling asleep as well.

This is our regiment. One thing I'm going to add soon is magnesium. I do take a women's multi vitamin which contains some magnesium, but I'd love to find a gummy.

If you enjoyed this blog or you have suggestions on other blogs, please leave me a note. I'm still developing my style of how and what I'm writing about. I'm trying to focus on every day things we can do to improve our health, both physically and mentally. There're so many topics, my adhd brain is reeling right now.

Thanks for taking the time. Have a great day!

Dawn
